Working with leaders across Canada to safeguard lands and waters for generations to come
Overview
Canada is home to 25% of Earth’s wetlands, temperate rainforests, and boreal forests, 20% of the planet’s freshwater, the longest coastline in the world, and one of its largest marine territories.
The health of these ecosystems is vital. They sustain communities and cultures, underpin food and water supplies, and are the cornerstone of economies, livelihoods, and wider society.
Our Environment program supports leaders across the country working to conserve lands and waters as the foundation of long-term health, prosperity, and security.
Focus
We concentrate our efforts in three core areas to strengthen the political, economic, and leadership conditions for conservation to thrive in Canada.

Building a Big Tent
Bringing different perspectives, sectors, and regions together around shared conservation values to build a durable policy environment for this work.

Strengthening Economic Pathways
Demonstrating the economic value and viability of conserving lands and waters as a cornerstone of long-term community prosperity and security.

Investing in Leadership
Building and sustaining leadership by supporting opportunities for learning, mentorship, and convening around shared work.
Approach
We advance this work through a mix of complementary approaches.
- Producing timely research and analysis
- Convening around shared goals
- Piloting new approaches
- Collaborating for greater impact
