Overview

Canada is home to 25% of Earth’s wetlands, temperate rainforests, and boreal forests, 20% of the planet’s freshwater, the longest coastline in the world, and one of its largest marine territories.

The health of these ecosystems is vital. They sustain communities and cultures, underpin food and water supplies, and are the cornerstone of economies, livelihoods, and wider society.

Our Environment program supports leaders across the country working to conserve lands and waters as the foundation of long-term health, prosperity, and security.

Focus

We concentrate our efforts in three core areas to strengthen the political, economic, and leadership conditions for conservation to thrive in Canada.

Northwest Territories Project Finance for Permanence

The NWT: Our Land for the Future, is a landmark initiative that uses an innovative conservation finance approach, known as Project Finance for Permanence, to support Indigenous-led conservation, stewardship, and economic development across the Northwest Territories.

Ivey Conservation Leadership Program

Developed by Ivey Business School in partnership with the Centre for Land Conservation, the Ivey Conservation Leadership Program is a weeklong executive education program for mid-to-senior level leaders from across the conservation sector.

Ontario Conservation Accelerator

The Ontario Conservation Accelerator works with diverse partners and provides unique resources and expertise in areas such as government relations, planning, and fundraising to advance conservation in Ontario.

Indigenous Leadership Initiative

The Indigenous Leadership Initiative is dedicated to strengthening Indigenous Nationhood as a path to fulfilling the responsibility to care for lands and waters.

Nature Investment Hub

The Nature Investment Hub is a resource and a convener. It is a meeting place for conservation organizations, Indigenous governments, organizations and communities, the private sector to coordinate on shared goals to increase investment in nature.

Fish, Wildlife and Habitat Coalition

The Fish, Wildlife and Habitat Coalition represents the shared interests of hunters, anglers, and trapping organizations, outfitting and guiding businesses, wildlife and ecotourism associations, and conservation organizations, by advocating for biodiversity and ecosystem health in British Columbia.

Canadian Parks Council

The Canadian Parks Council brings together park leaders from across the country, serving as a hub for collaboration, providing leadership and opportunities to advance parks and protected areas and their communities nationwide.

Nature Conservancy of Canada

The Nature Conservancy of Canada works with partners and communities across Canada to deliver large-scale, permanent land conservation.

Parliamentary Internship for the Environment

The Parliamentary Internship for the Environment is an annual program to equip the next generation of environmental leaders with skills, experience, and political know-how to drive change.
