The Metcalf Foundation’s Environment Program invites you to an informative and lively event, featuring two leading thinkers on issues of growth and environmental and economic sustainability: Tim Jackson and Peter Victor.

Tim Jackson, Professor of Sustainable Development at the University of Surrey, is the author of Prosperity Without Growth. His book was described as, “one of the most outstanding pieces of environmental economics literature in recent years.” – Le Monde

Peter Victor, Professor of Environmental Studies at York University, is the author of Managing Without Growth — a book that analyzes how to manage our economy within biophysical limits. Ecological economist Herman E. Daly, states that Peter: “… reasons carefully and rigorously, yet pulls no punches in drawing conclusions that some will consider radical. A superb book!”

A reception will start at 5:00pm. The event begins at 5:30pm. Professor Jackson will present the work he and Professor Victor are currently conducting, as Metcalf Fellows, to interpret what green economy means at community scale. This work draws on their ongoing research and analysis of resource and environmental flows, and finance and economic activity.

The evening will be moderated by David Miller, Counsel, International Business & Sustainability, Aird & Berlis, and former Mayor of Toronto. He will be joined by Karen Nasmith, Managing Director of Project Neutral. They will provide a commentary on the presentation, after which Professors Victor and Jackson will answer questions.

Join us for an inspiring evening of ideas, dialogue and debate on topics that are essential to the most critical issues we face today, as we search for ways to strengthen the integrity of our environment while facilitating sustainable prosperity.
