Metcalf is pleased to announce the launch of two new 2024 Performing Arts funding initiatives for arts organizations based in Toronto.
We believe that arts organizations — and the artists and arts workers who inhabit them — create exceptional opportunities for audiences and communities to engage with diverse artistic ambitions across a dynamic range of performance disciplines, find collective respite alongside their fellow humans, and create meaningful lives full of joy, relevance, and compassion. Given the ongoing severity and variety of challenges facing the sector today, we are offering two organizational funding opportunities in 2024 rather than our typical single intervention. Organizations may apply to both funds in the same year.
These new initiatives address intractable issues facing the Toronto arts sector. Through the Strategic Experimentation Fund (SEF), arts organizations are invited to name a challenge, articulate potential avenues to address the challenge, and undertake experiments to test the potency of their proposed responses. Through the Booster Fund, we are targeting artists and arts workers who are grappling with the high cost of living and the fragmented access to opportunity.
On April 23, 2024, Metcalf’s Performing Arts Program Director, Michael Trent, led an information session that provided an overview of both funds and answered questions. The session covered:
- an overview of Metcalf and the Performing Arts program,
- the state of the arts sector and how Metcalf is responding,
- details of each fund,
- eligibility requirements and the application process of each fund, and
- questions from the audience.

Booster Fund
