Report Launch & Discussion: Art and the World After This by David Maggs
2021

On September 15, 2021, we held the virtual report launch of Art and the World After This, which featured a presentation by David Maggs — sharing key ideas from the paper — and a thought-provoking panel discussion with leading international voices in the arts.

We were delighted to be joined by:

  • Marcus Youssef, International Associate Artist at Farnham Maltings in the UK and a Playwright in Residence at Tarragon Theatre
  • Diane Ragsdale, Director of Cultural Leadership at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity
  • Hasan Bakhshi, Director of the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre at Nesta

Together, with David, they discussed key questions posed by the paper as well as the wider implications for the arts sector and beyond.

Videos

We have curated a collection of videos from the launch event below, including:

  1. David Maggs sharing key ideas from Art and the World After This.
  2. Marcus Youssef sharing his reflections on:
What are we doing here anyway? What is the art sector’s unique value proposition?
  3. Diane Ragsdale sharing her reflections on:
Is this an ecosystem or a zoo? How might we apply ‘rewilding’ practices to Canada’s cultural ecology?
  4. Hasan Bakhshi sharing his reflections on:
Can we learn our way out of this? What should the relationship be between the arts sector and R&D?
  5. A full recording of the event, which includes a discussion between David, Marcus, Diane, and Hasan.
