Support for Bike Lanes Continues to Grow
2017

80% of Torontonians support bike lanes. That’s the findings from a new poll funded by the Metcalf Foundation and commissioned by the David Suzuki Foundation in partnership with Cycle Toronto. The poll revealed that there is clearly growing support, both across the city and across demographics, for bicycle lanes. When framed as a tool for safety, there is also broad support (81%) for lowering speed limits.

This data comes at a critical time, as city council will debate this fall, whether to dismantle the Bloor Street bike lane pilot project or make it permanent. Close to 70% of those surveyed are in favour of keeping the Bloor Street bike lanes.

The research received coverage in the Globe and Mail, The Star, and the CBC. The poll, which surveyed more than 800 Toronto residents in early June of this year, was conduced by the Angus Reid Forum.
