Metcalf at 2018 Philanthropic Foundations Canada Conference
2019

Metcalf Foundation staff played a lead role in two sessions at the Philanthropic Foundations Canada Conference that took place last October in Toronto.

Sandy Houston, Metcalf’s President and CEO, moderated the conference’s opening plenary. Featuring speakers Sevaun Palvetzian, CEO CivicAction, and Michael Adams, President of Environics, the panel discussed populism, civic engagement, and philanthropy.

Andre Vallillee, Metcalf’s Environment Program Director, organized a session that showcased Metcalf-funded sector leaders who played key roles in achieving major policy victories. Featured panelists included: Pedro Barata, Senior Vice President, Community Impact & Strategy with United Way Greater Toronto, Deena Ladd, Co-ordinator of Toronto Workers’ Action Centre, Alison Woodley, National Conservation Director with the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, and Tim Gray, Executive Director of Environmental Defence.

Philanthropic Foundations Canada annual conference is a national gathering, which allows foundation staff, advisors, and board members an opportunity to learn, network, and develop skills to improve grantmaking practices and strengthen funding strategies.

Sandy Houston welcomes participants to the opening session, 'Populism, Citizen Engagement and Philanthropy'.
