Canada’s Ecofiscal Commission is launched
On November 4, 2014, Canada’s Ecofiscal Commission was launched with the release of their inaugural report. The commission was formed by a group of experienced, policy-minded economists from across the country, seeking to broaden the discussion of ecofiscal policy reform beyond the academic sphere and into the realm of practical policy application.
Their goal is to identify and promote practical fiscal solutions for Canada that can spark the innovation required for increased economic and environmental prosperity. Their research will explore Canada’s greatest opportunities for pragmatic ecofiscal policies. These can range from road-congestion pricing and municipal user fees to carbon pricing and subsidy reform.
The Ecofiscal Commission and its Commissioners are fully independent and aim to serve policy-makers across the political spectrum, at all levels of government. Together with a number of other partners, Metcalf is a founding funder of the Commission.
